When you can't see the way forward and the worry won't quiet down, this prayer helps you lean on God instead of yourself. Watch and pray along today.
This is a prayer to trust God in every situation, for when you are trying to figure it all out yourself and the worry will not let up. Trusting God does not mean you understand the plan. It means you lean on Him instead of your own understanding, even when you cannot see the next step. Trust is a decision before it is ever a feeling. Pray this when fear is loud and the road ahead is blurry, and hand God the part you were never built to carry.
A Word Before You Pray
Let me be honest with you. Most of us do not struggle to believe God is real. We struggle to believe He has got this. There is a difference. You can believe in God and still lie awake running the numbers, rehearsing the worst case, trying to be your own savior.
Here is what I had to learn. God never asked you to understand the plan. He asked you to trust the Planner. That is the whole weight of Proverbs 3. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Notice it does not say your understanding is worthless. It says do not lean your whole life on it, because it cannot hold you up.
So before you pray this, put something down. The need to know how it all works out. The grip you have had on the wheel. You are not letting go of control because you are strong. You are letting go because the One holding you is stronger. Now pray it like you mean it.
The Prayer
Father God, I choose to trust you with all my heart. Help me not to lean on or rely on my own understanding, but to depend on you fully. Lord, guide my steps and direct my path according to your will. Remove every fear that comes from uncertainty and doubt, and fill me with confidence in your plan. Strengthen my faith so I will trust you in every situation and every circumstance. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
How to Use This Prayer
Pray it slow, and pray it more than once. Say it in the morning before the day gets its hands on you. Say it again when the news comes that you did not want. And when fear tries to talk you back into the driver's seat, come right back here and say it one more time. Trust is a muscle, and you build it by using it. You do not have to feel it for it to be true.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good prayer to trust God in every situation?
A good prayer to trust God in every situation keeps it simple. You tell God you choose to trust Him with all your heart, you ask Him to help you stop leaning on your own understanding, and you ask Him to remove fear and strengthen your faith. Short and honest beats long and fancy.
How do I trust God when I'm scared of the future?
Start by being honest that you're afraid. Fear is not a sign your faith is broken. Tell God what scares you, then ask Him to guide your steps and steady your heart. You don't have to feel brave to pray. You just have to choose to trust the One who sees what you can't.
What does "lean not on your own understanding" mean?
It means you stop putting all your weight on what you can figure out. Your understanding is real, but it's limited, and it can't carry the whole load. Leaning not on your own understanding is choosing to depend on God's wisdom over your own, especially when the situation makes no sense to you.
