Prayer of Adoration

3:32 min prayer

Powerful prayer of worship declaring God's names and character. Adore the Lord through His names - Jehovah Jireh, El Shaddai, Adonai, and more. Magnify His holiness.

Most of us rush into prayer with our list and skip the part Jesus put first: honoring who God is. This is a prayer of adoration, a way of worshipping God through His names, lifting Him up before you ask Him for anything. Praise is not flattery to get God's attention. It is how you get your own eyes off the problem and back onto the One who is bigger than it. Pray this when you want to worship God for who He is, slowly, on purpose, the way the Lord's Prayer begins.

A Word Before You Pray

Jesus modeled the order. Hallowed be thy name comes before give us this day our daily bread. Worship first, requests second. We tend to flip that, and we wonder why prayer feels like a transaction. But when you start by honoring God's name, something settles in you before you ever ask for a thing.

The Hebrew names of God are a doorway into that. Each one opens a different room of who He is. Jehovah Jireh, the One who provides. Jehovah Rapha, the One who heals. Jehovah Nissi, your banner and victory. Jehovah Shalom, your peace. Jehovah Tsidkenu, your righteousness. Jehovah Rohi, your shepherd. These are not vocabulary words. They are the ways God has actually shown up for His people, and for you. You worship God best when you remember exactly who He has been to you.

So before you pray this, slow all the way down. This is not a prayer to rush through. Say each name and let it sink in, and let the size of God put the rest of your day back in proportion.

The Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. I adore You. I make known to You my adoration and my love today.

I bless Your name, Elohim, the Creator of heaven and earth, who was in the beginning. It is You who have made me. You have crowned me with glory and honor. You are God of might and strength. Hallowed be thy name.

I bless Your name, El Shaddai, God Almighty, the all-sufficient one who nourishes and supplies. You are all bountiful and all sufficient. Hallowed be thy name. I bless Your name, Adonai, Lord and Master. You are Jehovah, the completely self-existing one, always present, revealed in Jesus, who is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. Hallowed be thy name.

I bless Your name, Jehovah Jireh, the one who sees my needs and provides for them. Hallowed be thy name. I bless Your name, Jehovah Rapha, my healer, the one who makes bitter experiences sweet. You sent Your Word and healed me. You forgave all my iniquities and healed all my diseases. Hallowed be thy name.

I bless Your name, Jehovah Mekoddishkem, the Lord my sanctifier. You have set me apart for Yourself. Hallowed be thy name. I bless Your name, Jehovah Nissi. You are my victory, my banner, my standard. Your banner over me is love, and when the enemy comes in like a flood, You lift up a standard against him. Hallowed be thy name.

I bless Your name, Jehovah Shalom. You are my peace, the peace that transcends all understanding, which guards my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus. Hallowed be thy name. I bless Your name, Jehovah Tsidkenu. You are my righteousness. Thank You for becoming sin for me that I might become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Hallowed be thy name. I bless Your name, Jehovah Rohi. You are my shepherd. I shall not want for any good thing. Hallowed be thy name.

Hallelujah, Jehovah Yahweh, the one who will never leave me nor forsake me. You are always there. I take comfort, I am encouraged, and I can confidently and boldly say, the Lord is my rock, I shall not be moved. I will not fear or be terrified. What can man do to me? Hallowed be thy name.

I worship and adore You, Elohim, the Most High God, the cause of everything, the possessor of heaven and earth. You are the everlasting God, the great God, the living God, the merciful God, the faithful God, the mighty God. You are truth. You are justice. You are righteousness. You are perfection. You are Lord Jehovah, the highest sovereign of heaven and earth. Hallowed be thy name.

Father, You have exalted Your name and Your Word above all else, and You have magnified Your Word above all that You have made. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and His name was Jesus. Hallowed be thy name. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

How to Use This Prayer

Pray it slowly, out loud, and unhurried, more like worship than reading. Stop on whichever name meets where you are today. If you are scared, sit on Jehovah Nissi and Jehovah Shalom. If you are in need, linger on Jehovah Jireh. Let the name become a place you rest, not a line you pass.

Worship reorders you. You walk in carrying the weight, and you walk out remembering who is carrying you. Use it to start your prayer time, before the requests, the way Jesus taught. Pair it with Psalm 103 or Psalm 23, and let adoration be the first word, not the afterthought.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a prayer of adoration?

Adoration is praising God simply for who He is, not for what you need from Him. It is the first move Jesus taught in the Lord's Prayer, hallowed be thy name, before any requests. A prayer of adoration slows down to honor God's character and His names, worshipping Him for being who He is rather than rushing to your list.

What does "hallowed be thy name" mean?

To hallow something is to treat it as holy and set apart. So hallowed be thy name means may Your name be honored as holy. Jesus put it first in His model prayer on purpose. Before you ask God for anything, you start by lifting His name high, which resets your heart and puts the whole prayer in proportion.

What do the names of God mean?

Each name reveals a different side of God's character. Jehovah Jireh is the Lord who provides, Rapha the Lord who heals, Nissi the Lord my banner and victory, Shalom the Lord my peace, Tsidkenu the Lord my righteousness, and Rohi the Lord my shepherd. Praying His names is a way of worshipping the specific way He meets you.

Why is worship and adoration important?

Because worship is not about informing God, it is about realigning you. When you praise God for who He is, your problems get put back in proportion next to His size and goodness. It builds faith, settles fear, and turns your attention off yourself and onto Him. Adoration is less about God needing it and more about you needing it.
