1:03 min prayer
Powerful prayer for Holy Spirit infilling based on Jesus' promise. Learn to receive the fullness and power of the Spirit through faith and confession.
There is more available to you than the day you got saved. This is a prayer to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to ask God for the fullness and power Jesus promised and to receive it by faith. The same Father who gave you His Son is glad to give you His Spirit. You do not have to twist His arm. You just have to ask. Pray this when you are hungry for more of God, ready to step into the power and the prayer language He has for His children.
A Word Before You Pray
Jesus framed this so simply it is almost startling. If you, being human, know how to give good gifts to your kids, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? That is the whole posture for this prayer. Not striving, not earning, not waiting to feel worthy. Asking a good Father, and trusting Him to give what He promised.
And notice how it worked in Acts. They were filled, and they began to speak as the Spirit gave them utterance. The Spirit supplied the words, but they did the speaking. He will not move your mouth for you. He gives the gift. You take the step. So this prayer ends with expectation, not anxiety, ready to yield your voice and receive what God is pouring out.
So before you pray, settle your heart on His character. You are not asking a reluctant God for something He is stingy about. You are asking the most generous Father there is for the very thing He promised His children. Ask in faith, and receive.
The Prayer
Heavenly Father, I am Your child, for I believe in my heart that Jesus has been raised from the dead, and I have confessed Him as my Lord and Savior.
Jesus said, "How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" So I ask You now, in the name of Jesus, to fill me with the Holy Spirit.
I step into the fullness and the power that I desire, in the name of Jesus. I confess that I am a Spirit-filled Christian. As I yield my voice to You, I expect to speak in tongues as the Spirit gives me utterance, in the name of Jesus.
I thank You for it. I praise You for it. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
How to Use This Prayer
Pray it when you are ready to receive, and mean the asking. After you ask, do not wait for the Spirit to take over and force anything. Begin to praise God from your heart, and as words or syllables rise up that are not your own language, speak them out by faith rather than holding them back. The Spirit gives the utterance, but you give it voice.
Receiving is the moment. Walking it out is the lifetime. Ephesians says to keep on being filled, so this is not a one-and-done. Pray in the Spirit daily, let it build over time, and do not let anyone, including your own doubt, talk you out of the gift. Pair it with Luke 11:13 or Acts 2:4, and keep yielding to the Spirit's leading.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I receive the Holy Spirit?
Mainly by asking and receiving in faith, not by earning it. Jesus said in Luke 11:13 that the Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask, so you ask, you believe you receive, and you thank Him for it. You do not have to beg or qualify. It is a gift a good Father is glad to give.
What is the baptism in the Holy Spirit?
Many believers describe a moment after salvation where the Holy Spirit fills them in a fresh, empowering way for service and boldness, often called the baptism in the Holy Spirit. You already received the Spirit when you trusted Christ. This is asking Him to fill you fully and overflow, so His power works in and through you.
What's the difference between being saved and being filled with the Spirit?
Being saved is receiving Jesus and the indwelling Spirit when you believe, and you are fully His from that moment. Being filled is an ongoing, deeper yielding so the Spirit's power flows out of you for witness and service. One makes you God's child. The other empowers the child. Ephesians 5:18 says keep on being filled.
