Marriage Goals
Spiritual Goals
If you can make what's important to God important to you, then God will make what's important to you important to Him. By seeking His wisdom and insight, you'll be developing your spiritual growth. Consider your prayer life, worship, and service – how much time you dedicate to God – and create goals based on that. This can include things like listening to the audiobook version of the Bible, serving more in church, confessing, and testifying and witnessing to others.
Marriage Goals
When thinking about your marriage goals, there are multiple factors to think about. This includes:
Communication
One of the hardest things to manage that even long-term couples struggle with is communication. You must consistently work to improve it.
Quality time
It's crucial to spend quality time together. It can be as big as going on date nights, vacations, or getaways, or as simple as talking together, trying a new activity, or watching a movie.
Sex life
Make it a priority to have a satisfying sex life, even if it's difficult to talk about. Discuss how your sex life is going and if there's anything you'd like to change or do differently.
Trust
Think about the things you can do, both big and small, to consistently build trust. If something happened this year that broke the trust between you, make goals that will help rebuild trust.
Respect
Keeping respect between you and your spouse is vital. If you don't respect your spouse, you won't listen to them. Make sure that you keep each other in high esteem.
Family Goals
Don't skip this category if you have children because the moments you create with them are what they'll remember for life. Make sure the communication within your family is consistent and healthy. Plan good, consistent quality time with them, such as game nights or talking with each other over dinner.
Financial Goals
Think about what your financial situation will look like in the new year. This can include things like your budget, income sources, expenses, gifts, charitable donations, savings, and investments. If you have children, think about contributions toward their college funds. What big purchases do you know you'll need to make? Have you set up an emergency fund? Will you need to add another income stream? Always discuss financial matters with your spouse because this is a huge reason why many couples separate.
Health Goals
If you're eating together under the same roof, you should familiarize yourself with each other's diet and lifestyle goals for the new year. It's easier to support your spouse in their health goals if you're both in it together. Your goals may look different, but it's important to support each other in your endeavors and move in the same direction. Additionally, discuss things like annual checkups, vitamins, sleep schedules, exercises, medical exams, etc.
Personal Goals
What are your dreams and desires? These can be things like reading more, joining organizations, changing your mindset, saying "no" more often, dropping unhealthy people in your life, or working on your emotional control. It's especially important to know your personal goals because they may conflict with what someone else wants. In cases like this, you'll need to exercise saying "no" to them and prioritizing yourself.
