1:12 min prayer
Speak life over your unborn child with this faith-filled prayer. Claim God's promises for your baby's health, future, and spiritual destiny.
Before this child takes a first breath, you can already cover their life in prayer. This is a prayer of thanksgiving and blessing over your unborn baby, receiving the child as a gift, declaring that God already knows them, and asking His blessing over the life ahead. Your baby was known by God before they were known by you, and they are already held in hands far steadier than yours. Pray this when gratitude rises up and you want to speak blessing over the little life God is forming inside you.
A Word Before You Pray
This prayer has a different tone than the prayers prayed in fear. This one starts with thank you. Before you ask God for anything, you get to simply marvel that He is forming a whole person inside you, and that He already knows this child by name in a way you do not yet.
Psalm 139 says God knit this baby together and saw their unformed body, that all their days were written before one of them came to be. So when you bless your child, you are not creating their worth or their future out of nothing. You are agreeing with what God already declared over a life He already loves. You are not begging a distant God to notice your baby. You are thanking a near one who already does.
So before you pray, let yourself feel the wonder of it. You are carrying a gift you did not earn and cannot fully comprehend. Receive it with open hands, bless the child, and entrust their whole life, body, future, and faith, to the God who dreamed them up.
The Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for my unborn child. I treasure this child as a gift from You. My child was created in Your image, and You have known this child since conception. You already know the path he or she will take in life.
I ask for Your blessing upon him or her, and I stand and believe for his or her salvation through Jesus Christ.
When You created man and woman, You called them blessed and crowned them with glory and honor. It is in You, Father, that my child will live and move and have his or her being. He or she is Your offspring, who will come to worship and praise You.
Heavenly Father, I thank You and I praise You for the great things You have done and continue to do. I am in awe of the miracle of life You have placed inside me. Thank You, Father, in the name of Jesus, for this precious gift. Amen.
How to Use This Prayer
Pray it slowly, maybe with a hand resting where your baby is growing, and let it be as much thanksgiving as it is asking. You can pray it once or return to it through the pregnancy, and there is something steadying about speaking blessing over your child out loud rather than only thinking it.
Praying for your child's faith is the first gift you give them, and you can start before they are born. Like Hannah, who entrusted her son to God early, you can commit your baby's life and future into His hands now. You cannot make their choices for them, but you can ask God to draw them to Himself for the rest of their days. Pair it with Psalm 139 or Psalm 127:3, and keep giving thanks for the gift.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a prayer for an unborn baby?
A prayer for an unborn baby is simply talking to God about the child you are carrying, thanking Him for the gift, asking His blessing and protection, and trusting the little life to His care. It often leans on Psalm 139, that God knit this child together and already knows them. You are inviting God into the journey early.
How do I bless and pray over my unborn child?
Many parents place a hand on the belly and speak Scripture and blessing over the baby out loud, declaring God's love, purpose, and protection. You can thank God for the child, pray for their health and future, and ask for their salvation down the road. Keep it simple and sincere. God hears the heart behind the words.
What Bible verses talk about babies in the womb?
Psalm 139:13-16 is the anchor, God knit you together in the womb and saw your unformed body. Jeremiah 1:5 says God knew you before He formed you, and Psalm 127:3 calls children a gift from the Lord. Genesis 1:27 reminds you the child is made in God's image. Pick one and pray it over your baby.
Can I dedicate my unborn child to God and pray for their salvation?
Yes, and it is a beautiful thing to begin early. Hannah dedicated Samuel to God before he was even born, and parents have prayed over their children's faith for generations. You cannot make the choice for your child, but you can ask God to draw them to Himself and commit their life and future into His hands.
