Chapter 1: The Blueprint
From Speak It
by Dr. Jomo Cousins
I remember when I was a little boy, around six or seven years old, my mother and I were sitting at a bus stop on 14th Street in Washington, D.C., waiting for the bus to pick us up. It was so cold, and the snow was on the ground. For whatever reason, the bus passed us by, and we had to wait for the next one. At that moment, I said to myself, "This will not be my story." My children will not have this experience. I didn't know at the time what I triggered inside of me.
And from that moment until now, I have found that the keys to fundamental breakthroughs in this world come through your ability to speak it forth. There is a blueprint that God gives us, and if you follow it, you will start to see the manifestation to which God has called you. My friends, God has some great things in store for you, but you must open your mouth and align your words with His words to see all that God has for you.
The Locked Vault: A Story About the Power of Words
There was once a wealthy man who built a beautiful estate, complete with a hidden underground vault. Inside the vault were treasures — gold, rare jewels, and life-changing resources: medicine, food, and blueprints for building schools and homes.
But there was a catch.
The vault could not be opened with a key. Not with a code. Not with a fingerprint.
It could only be opened by speaking the right words.
Many visitors came to the estate. Some admired the mansion. Some wandered past the vault, curious but unsure of how it worked. Others ignored it altogether.
Driven by hunger and despair, a woman and her child appeared in front of the vault, and the woman asked the mansion keeper, "What's inside?"
He replied, "Everything you need. But it won't respond to silence. You have to speak the promise."
Trembling, she whispered, "Provision…"
Nothing happened.
He gently said, "Speak it in faith, not fear."
This time, she stood tall and declared, "My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory!"
Suddenly — CLICK!
The vault opened. Out poured food, supplies, clothes, and scrolls with wisdom for the next step of her life.
The Message
The vault was always full. The power was always present. But nothing was released until the right words were spoken.
The same is true in the Spirit.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Jesus said, "If you speak to this mountain… it will move." (Mark 11:23). And God Himself created the universe not by thinking, but by saying, "Let there be…"
Your words are keys. Heaven's vault is voice-activated. Don't stay locked out by silence, doubt, or fear. Speak the Word. Speak with faith. And watch the vault open.
The Blueprint for Spoken Faith
The blueprint is a set of foundational principles we can use that will prompt heaven to respond. Let's read 2 Corinthians 4:13:
2 Corinthians 4:13 (AMP) Yet we have the same spirit of faith as he had, who wrote in Scripture, "I believed, therefore I spoke." We also believe, therefore we also speak.
I love how this verse clarifies that we are not waiting for this kind of faith; we have it. I want to be clear that the prerequisite of this faith is believing in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Now, understanding what you have is very different from what you use. So, we have the same faith as the Faith Heroes. We have the faith of Abraham, who was called the father of faith. We have the faith of Noah, who built an Ark, never seeing rain. We have the faith of Abel to trust God with his giving. We have the faith of Esther to go before the king without fear.
Whether positive or negative, our words are a mirror of our belief system. Our words reflect our belief systems: what we say is what we believe, for better or worse. If there is a lack in your life, you must speak to it. Remember, whatever you want to manifest, you must first confess.
Key Principles of the Blueprint
1. God Created Everything With Words
Psalm 33:6-9 (AMP) By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all their host by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as in a wineskin; He puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth hear and worship the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Hebrews 11:3 (AMP) By faith, [that is, with an inherent trust and enduring confidence in the power, wisdom and goodness of God] we understand that the worlds (universe, ages) were framed and created [formed, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose] by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.
John 1:1-4 (AMP) In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.
We see throughout Genesis 1 that God used words to create the world. You will see a common statement throughout these verses: "God Said."
Genesis 1 (NLT) — The Account of CreationThen God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. (v. 3)Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth." (v. 6)Then God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear." And that is what happened. (v. 9)Then God said, "Let the land sprout with vegetation — every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." And that is what happened. (v. 11)Then God said, "Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years." (v. 14)Then God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind." (v. 20)Then God said, "Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind — livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals." And that is what happened. (v. 24)Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground." (v. 26)
It is important to focus on the key insight in verse 27, which reveals how we are meant to live and act in this world. Since God created us in His image and likeness, we are also to create in the manner that He created. He created the world with His words; therefore, we also must create our world with our words.
Genesis 1:27 (NLT) So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
God even gives us His diet plan for us to live an optimal life.
Genesis 1:29 (NLT) Then God said, "Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food."
2. God's Word Is Fixed and Settled
If God's will for something is already fixed, I have to tap into what's fixed and attach myself to it.
Psalm 119:89 (ESV) Your word, O Lord, is everlasting; it is firmly fixed in the heavens.
Matthew 24:35 (AMP) Heaven and earth [as now known] will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
Ezekiel 12:25 (AMP) For I the LORD will speak, and whatever word I speak will be accomplished.
As believers, we have to lock in on what God has fixed. For example, if we face a financial challenge, we must find the scriptures that apply to our situation and begin confessing them over our lives. If I had a financial need, I would say, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I do not want. My God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Ps. 23:1; Phil. 4:19).
Whatever the obstacles you face, you have to speak the word of God over them. If you have an issue in your body, speak the Word over it.
Example Declaration: I am the Body of Christ. I am redeemed from the curse because Jesus bore my sicknesses and carried my diseases in His own body. By His stripes I am healed. I forbid any sickness or disease from operating in my body. Every organ, every tissue of my body functions in the perfection in which God created it to function. I honor God and bring glory to Him in my body (Gal. 3:13; Matt. 8:17; 1 Pet. 2:24; 1 Cor. 6:20).
3. Words Have Creative Power
Whatever situation you are facing, speak the Word over it and allow the Word to work for you.
Isaiah 55:11 (AMP) So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
Proverbs 18:21 (AMP) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
You are living in the harvest of your words, so if you do not like your current condition, change your words, and you will change your future. The best way to predict your future is to speak it.
4. God's Word Has Inherent Power
Hebrews 4:12 (AMP) For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 1:3 (AMP) By His powerful word [carrying the universe along to its predetermined goal].
Power is released when we open our mouths, transcending the physical and the spiritual realms. So it requires us to get the requisite knowledge to rightly divide the Word; hence, we can have the desired results.
5. We Were Created to Model God's Process
Genesis 1:26 (AMP) Then God said, "Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]."
Say this to yourself: "I am made in God's image and God's likeness; therefore, I can do like my daddy did! Since God created the world with His words, that means I can create my world with my words." Here is where we struggle: we often end up speaking what we see or what we're going through, rather than what God says. We have to discipline our mouths to speak the Word and not what we are going through. Speak what you want it to be and not what you see. You must say it until you see it. The Bible says in Joel 3:10, "Let the weak say, I am strong." Remember, there is no manifestation prior to confession.
Here we see God teaching Adam the blueprint for naming the animals, and that became their names.
Genesis 2:19 (AMP) So the LORD God formed out of the ground every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.
God gave Adam the authority to name all the animals. Now, let's think about this: Did Adam go to school? No, he didn't, so how did he name everything? He was given the mind of God! Jesus mentioned this ability in Philippians 2:5. I believe the key to walking in the fullness of what God has preordained in us is understanding God's will. God's will is locked up in God's word. The greater our understanding of the Word of God, the greater the release of power we will have.
John 15:7 (AMP) If you remain in Me and My words remain in you [that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.
6. We Must Speak God's Will, Which Is God's Word
Matthew 4:4 (AMP) But Jesus replied, "It is written and forever remains written, 'man shall not live by bread alone, but every word that comes out of the mouth of God.'"
Like Jesus, who used God's word to defeat his enemy's attacks, we can use the word of God as our defense.
7. Our Words Will Not Supersede God's Will
Lamentations 3:37 (AMP) Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass, Unless the Lord has authorized and commanded it?
8. We Must Build Our Faith on the Word of God (Jesus)
Here are four scriptures on which to meditate:
1 Corinthians 3:10-11 (AMP) According to the [remarkable] grace of God which was given to me [to prepare me for my task], like a skillful master builder I laid a foundation, and now another is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it, for no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is [already] laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Psalm 127:1 (AMP) Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.
Isaiah 28:16 (AMP) Therefore the Lord GOD says this, "Listen carefully, I am laying in Zion a Stone, a tested Stone, A precious Cornerstone for the [secure] foundation, firmly placed. He who believes [who trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone] will not be disturbed or give way [in sudden panic]."
Matthew 21:42 (AMP) Jesus asked them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The [very] stone which the builders rejected and threw away, has become the chief cornerstone; this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous and wonderful in our eyes.'"
The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 1:9 that there is nothing new; the problem you faced today is a problem someone faced yesterday.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NLT) History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.
So, there is a solution. We have to go to the source of all knowledge for it. Whatever your situation, just stand on the rock and trust God. Storms will come, but as long as you stand on the Word, you will overcome, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.
The Story of the Principal and the Failing School
Principal Harris had just taken over the worst-performing school in the district. Test scores were abysmal. Teacher turnover was high. The building was outdated, and the morale was even worse. Some people called it "a lost cause."
At the first staff meeting, the room was filled with skeptical faces, arms folded, eyes full of doubt.
But Principal Harris stood up and said, "This will become one of the top schools in this city. Students will thrive here. Teachers will love working here. This place will be known for excellence."
Some chuckled under their breath. A few rolled their eyes. But he didn't flinch.
Every day, he walked the halls and spoke life over the school:
- "This classroom will produce doctors and engineers."
- "These students will break generational curses."
- "This staff will operate like a dream team."
He spoke it before he saw it.
He held vision rallies. Encouraged teachers. Met with parents. Applied for grants. Set new standards.
By year three, test scores had doubled. Teacher retention had tripled. The school became a model for turnaround success — not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually.
When asked how he did it, Principal Harris said, "I didn't just lead with a plan. I led with my words. I spoke what I believed — until everyone else could believe it too."
This story reflects the heart of Mark 11:23, where Jesus says, "Whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart... he will have whatever he says."
Words don't just describe our situation. They can direct it, when spoken in faith.
